Intergenerational Subcommittee

We apply an intergenerational lens to the work of the Taskforce, because social isolation and loneliness affect all ages—and friendship across ages is transformative.

Resources

Want to seek support for and launch an intergenerational program in your community? We’ve compiled resources for individuals and organizations to use. Feel free to reach out if you have questions or other suggestions.

Our Objectives

1.

Demonstrate the value of intergenerational activity in addressing social isolation and loneliness for people of all ages.

2.

Highlight examples of successful intergenerational programs that promote community engagement.

3.

Provide resources and guides for the development of future intergenerational opportunities that reduce disconnection.

“When we talk about relieving isolation and loneliness, we need to consider our entire community. Older and younger people have so much to offer each other; intergenerational friendships are enriching, meaningful, and full of possibilities. Our subcommittee is working to elevate intergenerational programs across the Commonwealth and encourage collaboration across disciplines to create more intergenerational opportunities.”

— Nikki Shults, MBA, Intergenerational Subcommittee Lead and Executive Director of Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly (Boston Chapter)

Our Focus

Past

We provided examples of successful intergenerational programs across the Commonwealth for the It’s the Little Things Taskforce report and at the annual Taskforce conference.

Present

We create a platform for learning and listening across generations by inviting guest speakers from various disciplines to participate in our monthly subcommittee meetings.

Future

Over the coming year, we will work to collate resources to support communities and organizations in creating new and innovative intergenerational programs across MA.
